Nov 03, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Two Army commanders in Unity state, who were initially “loyal to the government of Salva Kiir” have switched allegiance and re-declared their defection to President Salva Kiir led South Sudan army.
According to a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Major-General Biel Matuek and Colonel Lor Buop abandoned the Vice President’s camp within the government citing corruption, lack of clear direction and vision as the reasons behind their defection.
“Maj. Gen Biel Matueh and Col. Hoth Lor Buop declared their defection from Gen. Taban Deng Gai camp. Citing corruption, lack of clear direction and vision,” read the statement from the two commanders.
The statement stressed that the two commanders thought Gen. Taban Deng Gai was working closely with SPLM under the wise leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit until recently when Gen. Taban Deng Gai was viciously demanding percentages on States as per responsibilities Sharing in the RTGoNU.
“Upon hearing such an absurd statement from Gen. Taban Deng Gai and his group as SPLM allies, this has actually triggered our defection and joined the SPLM fully without hesitation.” The General said.
“From today onward we are no longer supporters of Gen Taban Deng Gai, as leaders with followers both civilians and foot soldiers, we have declared our allegiance to the country’s leadership under our brave President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, Commander in Chief and Chairman of SPLM party,” the statement went on.
The two commanders also alleged that the people of Unity State have lost trust and confidence in Gen Taban Deng because of “the divide and rule policy” that he always promotes.
They also thanked the Governor of Unity State Lt Gen Dr. Joseph Manytuil for spearheading the ongoing process of Peace, reconciliation and forgiveness through BENTIU PEACE INITIATIVE.
The commanders pledged their support to the initiative saying it will bring together the people of Unity State
“Moreover, we applauded remarkably his achievements for disseminating peace messages across all counties of Unity State. Hence, we called upon Leek Nyalthiang Community who are still supporting Gen Taban Deng Gai to abandon and disown him in his leadership.” They said.
The two finalized by declaring their allegiance to the leadership of President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit and Hon Gov. Dr. Joseph Manytuil Wijang, the Governor of Unity State- Bentiu
Since his promotion to the ranks of Lt. General by president Kiir, the governor of Unity State, Dr. Gen. Nguen, has attracted uniform officers from within and outside the government.
Dr. Nguen also announced receiving over 2,500 soldiers who defected from Gen. Malong camp last month.
