ARC- Scandal: Benjamin Bol Mel evades tax and regulatory enforcement on imports

September 11, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — One of South Sudan riches business men, Benjamin Bol Mel, has been evading taxes and regulatory enforcement at the border, new documents extended to Nyamilepedia revealed.

According to numerous documents, alleged to have been exchanged between the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and Bol Mel’s ARC revealed that the ARC has had more than one tax exemptions on various imports worth billions of dollar.

On June 17, 2020, the South Sudan National Revenue Authority ordered exemption on 22 vehicles that the ARC requested to be exempted from paying taxes on their behalf.

The consignments belonged to a different company, Al-Sadaga, however the ARC claimed that the vehicles were theirs and therefore they should be exempted.

The insider, who extended the documents to Nyamilepedia, claims to have signed on some of the ARC documents asking for “exemption” that he later found was just an act of corruption.

On June 15, the ARC Resource Corporation wrote to the National Revenue Authority requesting for goods delivered by Al-Sadaga released and immediately the 22 vehicles were released.

Upon discovering that the documents have been extended to social media, South Sudan’s Ministry of Finance and Economics Planning tried to block the publication of the documents; however, it was too little too late.
