January 28th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The holdout opposition group, National Salvation Front (NAS) led by Gen. Thomas Cirilo Swaka said on Saturday that anti-rebel comments by R-JMEC undermines peace and confidence-building.
South Sudan President, Salva Kiir, and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar signed in September 2018 a revitalized peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa following months of intense talks in the Sudanese capital Khartoum hosted by President Al-Bashir.
Speaking during a meeting in Juba on Wednesday, Mr. Augustino Njoroge, Chairperson of the Revitalized Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC) said NAS leader was not abiding by the ceasefire deal which he inked in December 2017.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the National Salvation Front (NAS) led by Gen. Thomas said the comments by revitalized JMEC chairperson undermines institution saying it will negatively affect confidence-building.
“The statement by Mr. Njoroge undermines the institution and will affect trust and confidence building in the entire peace process,” the statement said.
