May 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Members of South Sudan’s anti-government protest organizers said on Thursday that a senior South Sudan diplomat at the country’s embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, blocked coverage of protests in front of the embassy.
Dickson Gatluak, a member of the Red Card Movement said government official at the embassy blocked media coverage and harassed journalist including one from the Doha based channel, Al-Jazeera.
The Nyamilepedia however could not independently verify if the alleged attack against Al-Jazeera journalist was true but Mohamed Adaw, a Kenyan journalist working for the channel, was expelled from South Sudan in 2015 the government under unclear circumstances.
“South Sudanese deputy ambassador to Ethiopia David Dang Kong harass the media team, involved physically to fight, chasing them from the embassy at Bole Sub city this morning,” he said in an email the Nyamilepedia.
“The purpose was to block them not to cover and air the news about the protest for the Red card Movement, a civil rights group calling for the president Kiir to step down. South Sudanese youth in Addis Ababa have marched to South Sudan embassy this morning but the protest was not coverage fully,” he added in the email.
