Oct 20, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — An IDP person who went missing a week ago was found dead near the internally displaced camp formerly known as UN protection of Civilians site (POC) in Malakal town, upper Nile state.
The body of late Kuol John Chol, age 38, who is a builder by profession, was found lying near the IDPs camp on Sunday, with hands tied using his belt.
The police have since launched investigations into the death of the late John Chol.
Speaking to a local tabloid, Major General Achol Atem, the Upper Nile State Police Commissioner in Malakal town said that they have set up a joint investigating committee including the community policing inside the United Nations camp to probe the death of the man.
“We are asking the people in the camp when this person left the camp, who did he leave the camp with to the town,” said Atem.
Major General Achol said that the police are looking for a person who had called with the information of a missing person at a church.
“We received information where someone called from UN camp saying there is someone lost and he is at the church, which was not so clear and now after the incident, we are now looking for that guy who had called us because he might have got enough information,” said major general Achol.
A police official said that the incident was the first one to happen in the area since the year. The last time such an incident happened was in 2019.
The family of the late Kuol John Chol could not be reached for a comment.
