January 8th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Almost 70 percent of South Sudanese people seeks a home-ground solution for the states and border issue currently under the desk of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) a new poll conducted by the Nyamilepedia has confirmed.
Under regional and international pressure, South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny signed a peace deal in September in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the war.
The agreement in Addis Ababa followed months of intense negotiations among delegates of the government and opposition who must, by the time, sign a pact or face international or further regional isolation.
According to the agreement, the IGAD is supposed to establish and appoint members for an Independent Border Commission (IBC) whose task is top determine the number of states and the tribal bordersas they stood on January 1st 1956.
However, the IGAD is yet to form the committee despite having the parties nominating their representatives to the would-be body.
In a poll conducted between January 1st and January 5th by the Nyamilepedia, 68 percent of South Sudanese who participated said they want a home-grown solution for the state issue. 32 percent of them said they prefers that the people wait for a IGAD solution.
