November 4,2021—The Head of the dissolved Sudanese Sovereign Council and Commander-In-Chief of the Sudanese Army Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has agreed to release the civilian political leaders arrested on the eve of a military coup organized last month.
On 25th of October, the military component of the Sudanese Sovereign Council deposed the civilian pro-democracy leaders and detained most of them including the Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, who was released few days later following the internal and international outcry; however, many other top politicians are still missing that include Yasir Saed Arman, the senior advisor on political affairs who is also the Deputy Chairman of the SPLM-N-Agar.
In a statement released by the South Sudan Presidential Press Unit yesterday, the high-level delegation, which was sent to Khartoum by the South Sudanese government early this week to meet the two conflicting groups, said they met the top military commander, Gen. Al-Burhan who is now acting as defacto head of the state and discussed the status of political detainees.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation informs that the High Level delegation led by Hon.Tut Gatluak Manime has just concluded a fruitful meeting with the Sudanese Military Leadership headed by Gen. Abdel Fatah Al Burhan in which they reached a major breakthrough on the status of the political detainees”,the statement reads.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the dispatched delegation reaches consensus with Al-Burhan admin saying the top military man promised them to free all political detainees with 24 hours.
“The Sudanese Military Leadership headed By Gen. Abdel Fatah Al Burhan-who is also the Commander in Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces- has agreed to release within 24hrs almost all the political Prisoners who were arrested last week following the dissolution of the Transitional Government”, the statement added.
According to the statement, this important decision will pave the way for peaceful dialogue between the Civilian and Military leaders.
