August 22, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – After weeks of speculations of a souring relationship between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the country’s intelligence chief General Akol Koor Kuc, the two men have appeared together at the statehouse on Friday.

Several social media reports have alleged that the relationship between the two men has soured after the NSS chief opened a private airstrip in a remote village in Tonj North county, a practice that reportedly angered Kiir.

Following the opening of the airstrip in Awul village, reports had it that President Salva Kiir had ordered the shutdown of the airstrip and days later reports claimed that Akol Koor had been prevented from traveling to Warrap by members of the Tiger Battalion.

Yesterday’s meeting, the Presidency said, took place between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the mediation team of the Sudanese peace talks whose membership includes General Akol Koor.

The presidency said in a statement that Kiir “met with the mediation committee for the Sudan Peace Talks, led by Tut Gatluak in his office on Friday. They discussed the ongoing peace process under the auspices of President Salva Kiir in Juba.”
