July 14, 2021 –  A group of South Sudanese diaspora-based activists is calling on South Sudan’s Vice President for Youth and Gender Cluster, Rebecca Nyadeng Garang to condemn the irresponsible and infamous comments of Ateny Wek Ateny about denigrating South Sudanese women.

This comes after Ateny, the Press Secretary at the office of President, caught in separate pre-recorded speeches which have been circulated widely on social media in which he says he always catches extraordinary feelings whenever he sees a beautiful adding that he feels like to grab her.  He described the feeling as genetic.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, a group of international South Sudanese women activists in the USA, UK, and Australia is urging Nyandeng to condemn Ateny’s comments deemed by many as being disrespectful to South Sudanese women.

Ateny has been accused several times of using his position to exercise sexual harassment and sexual abuse of young girls and women who visit Statehouse. Some years back Akuac Wol and Daniella Valentino Wol condemned sexual harassment being carried out by the press secretary on married women and young girls who visit J1.
