April 5, 2021(Nyamilepedia) — A fresh attack on Lou-Nuer in what could be a violation of the new peace initiative that ended between the Lou-Nuer and Murle three days ago has left at least one person killed and thousands of herds of cattle raided.
According to the reports from the ground, the attack happened on Saturday, April 3, 2021 in Kaikuiny of Akobo county, Jonglei State.
In a statement by Hon. Sebit Kuol Dhol, a former commissioner of Pieri under the SPLM/A-IO’s former 21 states, the attack was confirmed and 45,000 herds of cattle have been reportedly raided.
“I had a lengthy or detailed conversation with the people on ground, especially the Youth leaders and his Highness Dak Kueth Deng.” Hon. Sebit said.
“The report on Cattle raiding incident has been confirmed and below are the details of the incident. Place of Raid: Kacthar at Lang grazing lands; killed in action, 1 person and attle raided, approximately 45000 herds of cattle” He continued.
The former commissioner further said the youth are pursuing the attackers who are believed to be from Murle tribe.
“The Lou Nuer Youths are still pursuing the cattle raiders, and as Community elders and leaders we condemn this violation in the strongest term possible, although we are still hopeful in our search for peace, as we all understand that, peace is a “process and not a rule” we should always expect ups and downs.” Sebit said.
A relative of the deceased has identified the victim has Chan Gok and said the attack was in Kaikuiny, Akobo County.
The attack came barely two days after the leaders of both communities signed a peace deal to cease hostilities and begin to open a new page.
The attack also happened less than 24 hours after president Salva Kiir visited Jonglei State’s capital, Bor.
