December 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – An international aid group said in a statement this morning that its compound has been attacked by gunmen who wounded three and raped three of its staffers.
The Relief International said the Sunday attack was a “senseless act of violence” adding that staffs have been relocated.
According to the United Nations, South Sudan is one of the world´s most dangerous places for humanitarian workers and journalists. It was not immediately clear who carried out Sunday´s attack in the country emerging from civil war.
South Sudan’s army has said that army spokesman Lul Ruai Koang told the Nyamilepedia from Juba that he was not aware of the attack and “would inform the media once I have been served by the people on the ground.”
Rights groups call on the government to investigate and hold people accountable. Human Rights Watch calls the assault “a result of impunity for sexual violence and other abuses committed in the conflict.”
