1st Lt Gen. James Koang Chuol Hands Over JDB Co-Chairman To 1st Lt. Gen. Gabriel Duop

Jan 9, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — 1st Lt. Gen. James Koang Chuol Ranley, the former Co-Chairman of the Joint Defense Board, and the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the SPLM/A(IO) for Administrations and Finance thanks his chairman, Dr. Riek Machar, for the trust bestowed on him for the last 16 months and steps down for his replacement, 1st. Lt. Gen Gabriel Duop Lam, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations.

“Today, the historic 9th January [referring to signing to CPA], marks my last day as Co-Chair of the Joint Defense Board (JBD)… Comrade Chairman, I thank you for the trust and confidence bestowed in me, which enabled me to lead the Security Mechanism in the Implementation Process”  Lt. Gen. Koang Chuol said his a typed statement extended to Nyamilepedia.

“After giving it my all for the last sixteen months, it is fair to hand over the torch to a new person to oversee formation of the RTGoNU” He continued.

The outgoing Co-Chairman of JBD thanks the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Henry Odwar for his charismatic leadership and supports bestowed to the JDB and other organs of the peace implementation.

Gen. Koang appreciates his colleagues on both sides, in the government and the oppositions, for all their supports.

“In special way, I like to thank all my colleagues from other peace partners as well as my colleagues from the SPLM/A(IO) for their supports during my time with security mechanism, a support I could not have achieved the current milestone without” Gen. Koang Chuol Ranleey said.

Lt. Gen. Koang warmly welcomes his colleague, Lt. Gen. Gabriel Duop and encourages him to shine more light on the rest of the implementation.

“I would like to congratulations Lt. Gen. Gabriel Duop Lam for his secondment to JDB. I wish him well while discharging his functions” Gen. Koang warmly welcomes Gen. Duop.

In addition, Lt. Gen. Koang calls on his chairman, Dr. Machar, to continue engaging president Kiir.

He emphasizes the importance of constant engagement between the two leaders saying that the South Sudanese people have spoken and they need peace.

“Comrade Chairman, I have signed off while remain hopeful that your current engagement with H.E. The President continue to bear fruits,  which engagement shall lead to a lasting peace in our country.” Koang said.

“The people of South Sudan have suffered, they have spoken, they need peace and it is incumbent upon us, the leaders, to deliver that peace to our people” He concludes.
