On Wednesday morning Hon. Manawa arrived in his office to carry out his normal duties.
According to insiders, whom the minister met and worked with that day, he was as healthy as usual.
The goal for this Wednesday, June 15th, was to prepare a report that he would present to the cabinet on Friday where he (late Manawa) and the national minister of environment, Hon Josephine Napwon, were going to present on river dredging.
For the whole of Wednesday (up to 4:00 pm) Hon. Manawa, his acting Undersecretary and four other Director Generals worked on the report Manawa would present to the cabinet on Friday but after 3:30pm, late Manawa started complaining of “chest pain”.
At around 4pm on Wednesday, Hon. Manawa requested to be taken to the hospital and his private secretary and the DGs made a prompt arrangement to get him to the hospital.
He was rushed to Freedom hospital in Nimra Talata but he was later transferred to Baraka Hospital in Muniki, all on the same Wednesday evening.
Manawa received some medications from both hospitals and was later discharged. He was taken home, relatively stable, but the “chest pain” persisted throughout the night. He had no rest, according to those who monitored his situation.
The next day his conditions remained severe and as a result arrangements were made to transfer him to either Nairobi, Kenya or Cairo, Egypt; however, the Minister and his immediate family chose Cairo, Egypt.
After his flight was secured and COVID-19 tests were done, Hon. Manawa was taken to the airport at around 3pm and by 4pm, the plane departed.
The late was accompanied by his wife and one of his close private secretaries [names withheld].
After arriving in the hospital in Cairo, on Friday evening, reports emerging from the hospital indicated that the minister was getting better; however, the medical doctors assisting him informed the family that one of his blood vessels was blocked and required surgeries to fix it. Operations were done on Saturday and he went through successfully.
Until Saturday evening, news reaching Nyamilepedia Desk from Cairo indicated that the minister was responding to medication well with hopes that he would be discharged the next day or so; unfortunately, he died unexpectedly at 5am on Sunday, June 19, 2022.
This is a developing story. All names are withheld for privacy and respect for the family of the late.
May his soul rest in peace.
