September 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit is reportedly considering forming the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) in January 2020 according to several sources in Juba.

Kiir and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement to end what has been – since 2014 – the continent’s bloodies conflict fitting members of Kiir’s Dinka against Machar’s Nuer ethnic group.

The agreement provided for the formation of a unity government in May but because pre-transitional tasks needed before that government is formed were not ready, the parties decided to extend the formation of the government to November.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, a source in Juba said President Salva Kiir Mayardit was considering a request by opposition parties in Juba to delay the formation of unity government in January 2020.

“The President is considering the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) in January [2020],” the source said.

“The request to have the government formation delayed was made by the OPP [Other Political Parties] last month and the president is considering it because in the request there is a justification,” the source added.
