July 23, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —— All along, Salva Kiir has been a symbol of weakness, failures and death. He managed to rise to the position he is in today not because of his hard work as some could claim(in war those who work hard die early) but because he was destined to fail a country. Such a hex turned him into a lucky monster. He survived plane crush, diseases and battles in which he lost most of his soldiers due to poor strategic planning.
How Kiir rose to power
Kiir took advantage of First Come First Serve enrollment during the split of the Anyanya-two and subsequent formation of SPLM/A in 1983. Because he felt lucky to have grabbed the 4th position of the SPLM/A after Kerbino Kwanyin Bol, William Nyuon Bany and Dr. John Garang de Mabior, Kiir had to play a low profile, more humble and highly loyal to Dr. John’s vision that he never believed in. It was more of a luck because during the split, more senior members of Anyanya-two sided with Col. Samuel Gai Tut and Akwot Atem. In addition, Kerbino Kwanyin and William Nyuon felt out with Dr. John in 1992 and ’93 which Salva Kiir also exploited to his advantage.
Though it’s on his profile that Kiir lost many battles during his command, he never lost focus on SPLM/A seat for which I believe Kiir foul played Dr. John, Dr. Riek, Gen. Kerbino, William Nyuon and other senior leaders of SPLM/A. As a chief intelligence to Dr. John, Kiir used his position to spy, arrest and kill his opponents, especially senior cadres, or forced them to rebel in what he would brand as a coup against Dr. John Garang. The 1991 is a good case example in which Salva Kiir accused Dr. Riek and Dr. Lam of staging a coup against Dr. Garang’s leadership although they were thousands of miles away from Torit where Dr. John Garang was based. The three doctors of philosophy differed then on ideologies; whether or not they should fight for Unity as Dr. Garang aspired or whether they should fight for Separation as Dr. Riek, Dr. Lam, Dr. Adwok Nyaba and other senior cadres highly recommended. For the least enlightened chief of intelligence, Mr. Salva Kiir, such a debate amounts to a coup and should never have been tolerated. Similar debate on democracy and reforms, which Mr. Kiir branded as a coup again in December 2013, is what is now devastating the South for the second time in just two decades. Kiir has never gone to any school of thoughts and plurality of ideas is something he will never tolerate in his lifetime. It is a coup!
Back then Garang liked him(Kiir) because he thought he could managed him until he turned against the Chairman(Garang) in 2004. Despite attempts by other senior members of SPLM/A to rest the grudge between him and his chairman, Kiir openly warned Dr. Garang during the reconciliation meeting, brokered by Dr. Riek Machar, in 2004 in Rumbek that “those who are misleading you and giving you false security information about others will suffer with you together or leave with you.” This was a good indication that the chicken have came home to roost and Dr. Garang should have timely engineered more strict measures to handle his disgruntled deputy Chairman and Deputy Commander in Chief of SPLA. Hopefully he did so within the ranks and files of SPLM/A but hardly was the chairman aware that some foreign assassins could have been ear lopping to exploit the fall-out.
Long story short, after Garang’s death Kiir revealed that he was an enemy from within and that he never believed in Dr. John’s vision. He voted for Separation in 2011, built fake statue for Garang, dismissed Garang’s loyalists(Garang Boys) and in 2013 tried to dismiss SPLA in attempt to replace it with his newly trained militia, the Mathiang Anyoor, that was recruited from northern Bhar el Ghazal by General Paul Malong Awan who later became his other victim. This is the mess that is killing South Sudan. In sum, Kiir has failed SPLM/A, South Sudan and his own family.
Can’t raise a Family but a nation?
Coming to his family, unlike Dr. John, Dr. Riek and other senior members of SPLM/A who raised noble families, Kiir raised a very dysfunctional and highly corrupt family. His wife, Ayen, who is residing in Kenya, and his brother-in-law, Gen. Gregory, are both mentioned in major political scandals and corruption reports such as Sentry report. His son, Manut, has been on the news in Kenya for excessive drinking, fighting and domestic violence, terrorizing his mother and his younger sister, Winnie. The elder daughter, Adut, who married an Ethiopian man shortly after other private scandals a few years ago, is also another fighter who has been on the news for terrorizing her step mothers, the co-wives to Ayen. All these scandals have been ignored under the blanket of privacy but how can a man who cannot raise successful children raise a nation of 12 millions people?
Nepotism and Failures of Gen. Gregory Vasili, the spoon-fed Brother-in-law!
On thin line of nepotism, Kiir appointed his corrupt brother-in-law, Gen. Gregory Vasili, as Gogrial state governor notwithstanding that Gregory never served as a commissioner, except on a short trial in 2004-2005, or a member of parliament(MP) in the Independent South Sudan. Six months later, Kiir admits that his brother-in-law has failed Gogrial State as communal feuds between two of the four clans, the Apuk and Aguok, escalate to neighboring states but instead of relieving him, Kiir came out through his usual useless decrees to declare a state of emergency on Gogrial state. This line of reasoning is what holds South Sudan hostage. Instead of admitting that someone has failed or better yet he, the president, has failed his family, community and his country and then steps aside, Mr. Kiir is determined to die trying to rebuild his forged legacy. Sadly, the more he tries, the more he fails!
I’m sorry to have attacked Kiir’s family because I believe every family has some innocent members but the flag bearers of this family are a disgrace to the rest of the family, Gogrial and the Republic of South Sudan!
