Aug 20, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —— 19th, August and in every year is World Humanitarian Day, which had been proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. It’s, above all, a day on which we renew our commitment to help vulnerable, victims, voiceless and marginalized communities and individual wherever they may be. That is the abiding vision, mission and objective of the humanitarian community and agencies.

This is also a day on which we pay tribute to the legions of heroic humanitarian staff and personnel who work day and night to save life. These men and women come from different cultural backgrounds, nationalities but all of them share a conviction that individual suffering is everyone’s responsibility. The date of this observance marks the anniversary of the attack on UN Headquarters in Baghdad which killed 22 dedicated men and women, including the great humanitarian Sergio Vieira de Mello who was UN representative.

I continue to draw inspiration from their legacy that they left behind for thy soul did not go in vain, and remain determined to carry it forward. The United Nations should consider to establishing an annual price in name Sergio Vieira de Mello and all his colleague and partners who die in the UN Baghdad attack for they had done noble work.

They United Nations General Assembly need us to work harder and tirelessly for the safety, security of humanitarian community and agencies. World Humanitarian Day is meant to shine a spotlight on people in need, to ensure they receive the assistance they deserve.

As humanitarian community let us redouble our efforts toward humanitarian goals and objectives. Let us fulfill our humanitarian imperative.

Happy Humanitarian Day!!!
