Nov 4, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— I am Simon Deng, former Sudanese slave and human rights activist. I was your guest in the White House on two occasions. It was a humbling experience to be in the presence of such a great leader as you.

Dear Mr. President, it was your leadership as President that achieved peace in Sudan by ending the longest civil war in history between the Northern and Southern Sudanese. The people of South Sudan achieved their independence because of your leadership. You rescued them from slavery, Islamization and Arabization. This will go down in history as one of your greatest legacies. It was an honor to work with you and your administration on this historic effort.

But the country we helped to create is now collapsing before our very eyes. Four million South Sudanese people are now refugees, with hundreds of thousands trapped in United Nations camps inside South Sudan, their lives profoundly disrupted, abandoned by the international community, without any hope for a better life for their children. I hate it that I need to report such new, but sadly my native country is spiraling downward into a full-blown genocide.

My dear friend, on behalf of all South Sudanese, we beseech you as a friend and as the leader who showed us to freedom. I am humbly requesting a meeting during which we can come together and discuss the situation in South Sudan, and hopefully discover some ways forward toward an end to the crisis. We are desperate. We need your help.

We look forward to this opportunity, and are ready and willing to visit you in your office in Texas at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Simon Deng
