April 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – clashes break out in an area near Bentiu this morning between South Sudan’s warring parties in a new wave of violations of the Cessation of Hostility Agreement (CoH) signed in December 2017 between various armed groups and Kiir’s government.
Residents in Bentiu PoC told the Nyamilepedia that fighting broke out in an area called Dhorkan in the northern part of Bentiu after government forces attacked rebels’s base controlled by fighters loyal to the former First Vice President Riek Machar.
Ran Bol, a resident in the UN PoC in Rubkona, told the Nyamilepedia that government forces were however repulsed by opposition forces.
“The government went out this morning to attack Dhorkan which is under the control of fighters loyal to Dr Machar, but it seems like they are repulsed because the gunfire is coming towards Bentiu town” Ran said.
Government and opposition officials were not available for comment when contacted by the Nyamilepedia.
