South Sudan says there is high-level increase of crimes in Juba

September 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government said on Tuesday that there is a high-level increase of crimes in the capital Juba.

The Presidency however said in a statement following a National Security meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit today that the security situation in the country remain stable.

“The President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit on Tuesday chaired the meeting of National Security Council at the State House Juba,” the Presidency statement said.

“…. the meeting discussed security situation in the country, especially in the capital Juba, indicating to the increasing of crimes in Juba during last few weeks,” the statement added.

The statement further quoted the minister of interior Michael Chiengjiek Geay as saying “security units managed to arrest most of criminals who were involved in crimes during the past few weeks.”

It further stated that the President directed “the security units and relevant institutions to develop necessary measures to provide security and apprehend criminals that seek to stabilize the country.”
