February 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan Liberation Movement and Army (SSLM/A) led by Gen. Bapiny Manytuil Wijang said on Monday thats it has assembled its forces in Mayom county as per a September 2018 peace agreement.
The SSLM/A is a member of the opposition umbrella, South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) that represents around seven or eight opposition entities fighting the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit.
In a statement issued on Monday and extended to the Nyamilepedia, Brig. Gen. Saif Khamwina Gatluak, the military spokesman of the SSLA, said their troops, in compliance with the revitalized peace agreement and the security arrangement, have assembled in Bong, a village east of Mayom county in Unity state
“In this regard I would like to informs the International Community and the entire South Sudan that on 18/February/2019,SSLA forces are respectively sited and cantoned in their cantonment area Unity State – (Bong) ,pursuant to the article 2.2.3.3 of the Revitalized agreement on the resolution of the conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS 2018) for the implementation of security arrangement,” he said in a statement he extended to the Nyamilepedia.
Early this months, South Sudan parties to the Joint Defense Board (JDB) agreed to establish 25 cantonment sites for all opposition (SPLA-IO and SSOA) troops in the country while 15 other sites would be designated at a later date.
According to a document obtained by the Nyamilepedia at the time, the 25 sites were designated from 9 former South Sudan states as follow: Unity, Western Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Upper Nile, Western Bhar Al-Ghazal, Northern Bhar Al-Ghazal and Warrab.
Bong, in Unity state, is one of the sites designated in Unity state.
