January 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A faction of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) said on Thursday that Changson Lew, leader of a rival faction of the SSOA is keeping away money meant for them as result of the ongoing rifts in the alliance.
The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) split into two in November last year following a decision by Changson to suspend results of election conducted on October 30th which elected Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka as the new SSOA Chairman.
Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Thursday, David Lawrence Lual, a senior member of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol, said Changson is keeping away from them money meant for SSOA delegates who went to attend peace celebrations in Juba in October 2018.
“The amount that was given for the delegates of SSOA who went to Juba for celebration was $ 200,00. It was supposed to be divided among 8 member organizations of SSOA,” he told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.
Lawrence said the money were brought from Juba the day before elections were conducted and decided to keep the money after he was defeated by Gatdet.
“The money was brought from Juba one day before the elections which consequently resulted in the split that happened in SSOA and was handed over to Changson,” he said.
“As Chairman of SSOA by then, he was supposed to divide it equally among SSOA member organizations but instead he kept the portion that was meant for NDM and SSUM and he started to use it to buy the heads of the organizations who earlier on voted in favor of Gen. Gadet,” he added.
SSOA faction lead by Changson was not available for comment.
