South Sudan army, SPLA-IO signs military cooperation in Bentiu to work together

January 3rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan army,  the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and the main armed opposition group, Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together in the Northern Liech state.

A hug delegation of Machar’s SPLM-IO led by the opposition governor of Unity State, Brig. Gen. Tor Tungwar Kueiguong is in Bentiu following a return last month by opposition officials to attend a peace celebrations.

The agreement was signed by the South Sudan governor of Northern Liech State,  Joseph Nguen Manytuil and SPLM-IO governor Tor Tungwar on behalf of the opposition.

The agreement aimed at creating a join military petrol to protect civilians in the town and in neighboring areas and to also preserve peace in the state.

Speaking to SSBC after the signing of the agreement,  SSPDF commander of Division Four Maj. Gen. Samson Mabior Lual said peace has been felt through the state following the peace celebrations held last week in the state capital Bentiu.

For his part,  SPLA-IO Commander,  Gen. Turuk Khor Kuai said his group is for peace and that’s why they came to Bentiu.
