June 4th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudanese diplomat who serves at the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation before her defection today said in a statement she released on Monday to publicly announce her defection from the regime of Salva Kiir that the failed leadership of the South Sudan’s leader has negatively affected the country’s diplomacy.

Rebecca Andrew Koang said the South Sudanese leader is not doing much to save over 24 South Sudan embassies across the world which she said were paralyzed due to failure by the Kiir’s government to pay rent for the embassies.

“The failure of the leadership of President Salva Kiir has negatively affected South Sudan’s diplomacy,” she wrote in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia on Monday.

The diplomat adds that the closure of South Sudan embassies in many countries has been the results of debts accumulation that the government is struggling to pay to the countries owed by South Sudan.

“All the 24 embassies of the country are paralyzed due to the economic deterioration in the country. Debts have accumulated from the rents of the embassy premises abroad. Diplomats as well as the local staff have not been paid for the last 12 months, and all activities have been brought to a halt,” she wrote.

Koang revealed that heads of South Sudan missions and their staffs in different countries worldwide are being harassed by the landlords who she said demand to be paid their money or drag the South Sudanese diplomats to court over unpaid dues while the government turns deaf hear on them.

“Therefore, Heads of mission and their staff are being harassed and threatened by landlords who are about to expel and sue them. That notwithstanding, the government is still turning a deaf ear, incapable of taking decisive and austerity measures to salvage the reputation of South Sudan in foreign lands,” she said.

The diplomat added that with all these actions, the South Sudanese leader whose term expired in 2015 disappointed the people of South Sudan besides friends of South Sudan like the United States and some European Union countries who stood by the country during the liberation struggle.

“President Salva Kiir’s regime has indeed deeply disappointed South Sudanese people as well as friends of South Sudan,” the diplomat added.
