Members of the minority communities of Western Bhar Ghazal, who have gone viral in solidarity with their families back in Wau town, call on President Salva Kiir to order his troop to stop targeting civilians in Wau.

“People of Western Bahr el Ghazal WBGS strong condemns Salva Kiir’s army for turning their anger and guns aggressively against un-arm civilians after they lost battles to armed groups. This is considered as an act of cowardice and we condemn it in the strongest term possible” Said Peter Utenmando who speaks on behave of the community.

“We also condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the brutal attacks, unfolded on 23.06.2016 and continue to, on civilians in the capital Western Bahr el Ghazal WBGS, especially, in the Bakari Jeded, Bazia Jeded, Nazareth, Hai Kosti etc, that left many lost their dear lives and many others injured.” Utenmando continued.

The fertites, Luo and Balanda communities calls on the Transitional Government of National Unity and the International Community to intervene to safe lives in Wau and others towns under attack by Salva Kiir forces in Western Bhar el ghazal.

Peter said the people of WBGS appreciates the ongoing efforts by International Organizations to address humanitarian needs and support to the civilians currently trapped inside and around Wau.

“We express our concern at the ongoing violence in the country and especially in the capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal, Wau, and demand that the TGoNU take all necessary actions to ensure that the Permanent Ceasefire is fully respected across the country, including Western Bahr el Ghazal and Western Equatoria State.” Peter said.

“Further, we call on the Parties comprising the TGoNU to immediately embark on addressing the economic, and security challenges that the people of South Sudan are facing. We extend our condolences, support and pray for the family, who lost their beloved one in this tragedy.” Peter concludes.

The violence in Bhar el ghazal region, an area that has been relatively peaceful during the last two years of war, were triggered by Salva Kiir’s 28 states.

Following months of intense intercommunal feuds over the land, boundaries and controversial leaderships in the new states, armed youth in Wau and Raja went into armed confrontations with the SPLA-IG in the region.

While many civilians are feared dead, ten of thousands have been displaced this weekend in Wau and many others in Raja last week.
