June 19, 2021 – The Deputy Governor of Eastern Equatoria State Mary Dio Lodera has survived death after falling prey to an ambush that killed one person and wounded four others along Torit-Kapoeta Road.
Eyewitnesses told Nyamilepedia that the gunmen ambushed the vehicles of Ms. Lodera when she was on her way visiting an area in Eastern Equatoria State.
Speaking from the Press Secretary from the Office of Governor Alia Angelo said the vehicles of the Deputy Governor were being used by South Sudanese Americans returning from Torit from visiting their family in Lopit Area.
“They were stopped by some armed groups of Monyomaji the youth who looted everything in the vehicles and then after they took everything they asked people to get into their cars and go back to Torit but in the process when drivers trying to continue with the journey they started shooting the vehicles and they shot one person dead and the car overturned because the driver was also shot “, Press Angelo said.
Angelo said the injured people are now in Torit hospital but he said the mother with the child still missing in the bush where they ran to hide themselves.
He also said Governor Louis Lobong ordered youth leaders, elders, chiefs, and other relevant authorities in the area to bring assailants to the book citing that criminals must be known.
He added that the government approach is to hold the whole area responsible if any incident happened until they hand over the perpetrators to the government.
