August 17th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudan’s foreign minister, who is also the Chief mediator between conflicting South Sudan parties at the talks in Khartoum, Al-Dirdiry Mohamed Ahmed, met on Thursday night with the parties after the later failed to agree on the number of states during the transitional period.

South Sudan government and opposition groups signed peace deal early this month but some issues were left pending forcing them to continue the talks on these issues in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

In an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia on Thursday,  the SPLM-IO deputy Chairperson of National Committee for Information and Public Relations, Manawa Peter Gatkuoth told the Nyamilepedia that the leadership committee which is tasked to handle the issue of the states failed to make progress instigating the intervention of the chief mediator.

“We have not made any progress on the number of states that’s why the [Sudanese] foreign minister is now in a meeting with the leadership committee to try to help the parties reach consensus on this issue.  The meeting is being attended from our side by Angelina Teny, and Elias Nyamlel,” he said.

He added that they have told both the mediators and the government that maintaining the current controversial thirty-two states will not bring permanent peace because it has given some people’s lands to other citizens and as such it will be a recipe for more violent.

“We have told them that the new states grabbed lands from owners and as such it will be a recipe for further conflict if not handled now,” Manana said.
