South Sudan: Rebels Declare Victory In Wau Fighting, Civilians Targeted!

April 10, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —— Forces of South Sudan’s SPLA in Opposition in Western Bhar el Ghazal’s Wau State declares victory against government troops following hours of fighting in Bazia.

According to official sources of SPLM/A in Opposition, Western Bahar Ghazal Lion Forces(WBGLF)- a division of SPLA in Opposition under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny – has defeated the government troops and their militia in the last battle on April 9th, 2017.

Government Troops Used Chemical Weapons.

According to official sources of SPLM/A(IO) in Wau, Juba has used internationally banned cluster bombs in the recent battle in Bazzia but they claim to have won the battle despite the use of chemical weapon on them.

“although they used Internationally banned weapons against our army. The regime in Juba has lost battle against our WBGLF gallant forces in the Bazia Road yesterday April 9, 2017.” Said the governor of SPLM/A(IO). Hon. Dominic Ukelo.

Targeting of Civilians in Wau

 

The SPLM/A-IO governor, Dominic Ukello, accused South Sudan government of targeting innocent civilians in Wau State

“As usual the government troops have turned to kill innocent citizens after losing the battle instead of facing our troops in the field.” Ukello reiterates.

“On early morning April 10, 2017 the government forces have closed the road to UNMISS and Churches, shooting randomly in the population areas, specifically in the areas inhabited by Fertit tribes resulting to the mass killing of innocent civilians in Wau city, And the killing by the government troop continues during the writing of this report.” Ukelo continued.

The military governor of SPLM/A-IO condemns the attacks on civilians by government forces, saying:

“The government of Wau Federal stated condemns the killing of the civilians by the government troops.” Said governor Ukelo

“The government of Wau Federal State is highly concern about the innocent civilians in Wau.  We further the government troops to refrain from attacking civilians in Wau.” SPLM/A0-IO leader in Wau continued.

In other reports, South Sudan rebels in Wau claim to have killed two senior government generals, Maj. Gen. Peter Par Jiek and Brig Gen. Bol Chut Dhoul during an ambush in Baggari.

According to reports obtained at the scene of fighting in Baggari, at least 5 bodyguards of the two generals were killed in the ambush, a report Nyamilepedia could not independently verify.

Government Sources Report Separate Fighting in Mapel

According to government sources in Wau, the recent fighting in Wau between various armed forces was in Mapel and 7 civilians were killed.

 “The government clashed with an armed group in Mapel at around 5 pm, so after a while some criminals also took advantage of the clash and went to the civilians starting burning their house and seven civilians were killed during the incident,” said Abraham Cirilo, a member of parliament in Wau State,

According to Mel Aleu Goc, the Mayor of Wau town, gunshots were heard around Masna but the Mayor denied any fighting going on between SPLA-IG and SPLA-IO.

“The criminals were trying to get into the town but they could not, so they exchanged fire with the night patrol around Masna. I suspect they are part of the rebels,”said Aleu.
