Machar Appoints a New Spokesman, Replacing James Gatdet
Jan 11, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —– In the latest appointment, today, the Chairman of SPLM/SPLA in Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar, has replaced his long time Press Secretary, James Gatdet Dak, who was deported last year by Kenyan authorities to his enemies due to a Facebook status.
Machar has appointed Cde. Lam John Kuei Lam, a journalist by Profession, to the position of Press Secretary in his office.
“Pursuant to the resolution of the SPLM Political Bureau September 23, 2016 and SPLM(IO) constitution, I, Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of SPLM/SPLA(IO), do hereby appoint Cde. Lam John Kuei Lam as Press Secretary in the Office of the Chairman with effect from 11th January 2017.” Reads part of the statement signed today by Dr. Machar in Pretoria, South Africa.

Mr. Lam, a freelancer who reports for Sky News Arabia, studied Photography at the University of Khartoum and worked for various news organizations.
Lam takes over a position that was served by James Gatdet Dak for nearly two decades.
Dak was deputized by Cde. Nyarji Jermlili Roman and it is yet to be confirmed if Roman will continue to serve as a deputy Press Secretary or would be promoted to a different portfolio.
Dr. Machar is reshuffling his leadership while he waits in South Africa for possible resuscitation of South Sudan Peace Process by the Africa Union and TROIKA.
Within the last two months, Machar has made over 40 appointments into old positions and new frontiers in South Sudan and Diaspora.
