Dec 24, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– The Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba says there will be no evening prayers to celebrate the birth of Jesus on this Christmas eve in Juba due to security fears.

According to Archbishop Paulino Lokudu Loro several armed people, preferably known as “unknown gunmen”, prefer firing shots in the air and robbing civilians during Christmas eve, which is a big concern for the church.

Traditionally, Christians holds midnight Mass on Christmas Eve as it is believed that Jesus was born at night according to scriptures of St. Luke 2: 6-8  and Matthew.

As Christian families and congregation will be commemorating the birth of Jesus all over the world, many Christians in South Sudanese war-torn capital may not lit even a candle tonight due to security fears.

Archbishop Lokudu said as precautionary measure, there will be no night fellowship or Midnight Mass on the night of December 24th.

“You always shoot guns, who do you think will come for prayers? So that is the reason,” said Lokudu.

He appealed for restrains and avoidance of killing or stealing as people celebrate Christmas.

Archbishop Paulino Lokudu Loro also urged the people of South Sudan to drop ethnic differences and work together for peace to prevail in the country.

South Sudan killing and violence is expected to worsen into a full blown genocide any time as many political leaders including the president are accused by the international community of training militias and using hate speech in public to incite more violence during the upcoming dry season.

Attempts at the United Nations Security Council has failed yet again yesterday, Dec 23rd 2016, to imposed arms embargo and sanctions to reduce violence in South Sudan.
