Dec 08, 2016(Nyamilepedia) ——- As South Sudan fighting could be heard miles away from the national capital, Juba, armed opposition(SPLA-IO) claim an upper hand in the recent fighting in Central Equatoria state.

According to deputy spokesman of SPLM/SPLA in Opposition, Col. Nyarji Roman, the rebels defeated government troops (SPLA-IG) in four more areas in Yei River County of Central Equatoria.

He alleged the SPLA-IO are in full control of Pakula, Godo, Mitika and Mugo as of today, December 8th, 2016.

“Today Thursday 8th December our forces in Yei county of Central Equatorial State managed to captured and free the below areas and they are under our full control now: Pakula, Godo, Mitika and Mugo” Said Col. Nyarji Roman.

Col. Nyarji believes that the only areas that remain under the regime control are Kegulu and Yei town in Yei River County.

“The only areas that remains under government control are Kegulu and yei the center.” Nyarji said.

He said the government militia in Mugo left the area without any confrontation and joined their forces 4 miles away in Kaya road, a report Nyamilepedia Press could not independently verify.

Responding to rebels reports, SPLA-IG spokesman, Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Kong, has denied the reports saying the government remains in full control of Yei River County.

Although Brig. Lul was not able to provide details on recent fighting, he said the rebels have not besieged Yei town but instead have resorted to propaganda to instill fear in local population.

“These are extreme lies meant to cause physiological pressure and instill fear among our people. Yei is not under siege as reported.” Brig. Lul said.

According to residents of Juba, heavy fighting could be heard from the capital, Juba.

Many residents confirmed having heard heavy fighting towards president Salva Kiir’s cattle camp and militia training centre, Luri.

In other reports, SPLA in the capital besieged UNMISS camps in Jebel for many hours on Thursday morning.

They retreated hours later after the UN Peacekeepers threatened a physical confrontation, warning that SPLA has no warrant to enter civilians’ protection site unless disarmed at the gate.

At the time of this writing, official reports from the UN wings in the capital were yet to be finalized. They speculate that the army could have been angered by results of recent fighting in Yei River County.
