Breaking: Dr. Machar Will Only Discuss Peace With Juba If Kiir Denounce Violence and Stop Attacking Civilians

Oct 17, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– South Sudan’s former Vice President, Chairman and Commander in Chief of SPLM/A in Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has warned that he will only discuss peace with Juba if President Salva Kiir denounces violence and stop attacking civilians in the country.

“We the SPLM/A-IO, we see to reorganize ourselves to stage a popular arm resistance against the government including changing it because there is no other solution we see now” Machar strongly emphasized.

Machar is furious that his forces are being attacked and people are being targeted and displaced by the government of Salva Kiir in all parts of the country.

“There is war going on in South Sudan since the 8th of July, they all know it. In Equatoria people are up in arms, there is fighting. See what is happening on the Juba-Nimule road, see what is happening on Juba-Yei road, Juba-Torit road. In Western Equatoria, the same, and if you go to Bhar el Ghazal, it is continuing. In Bhar el Ghazal it never stop even”

Machar blames the fighting on his opponents although the international community have failed to condemn Salva Kiir’s government.

“I’m not starting a new war. It was started by Salva Kiir before that. I’m surprised when they [International Community] don’t read the signs correctly. If they read the signs correctly, there is war in South Sudan” Machar continued.

Appointment of Taban does not stop the war

Although Salva Kiiir government has been marketing the new First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, as the solution to the conflict, Machar warns that appointing Taban as a First Vice President cannot stop the war.

“The fact that president Salva Kiir appointed Taban, who is a conspirator with him, as the First Vice President doesn’t stop the war” Machar warns.

Machar reiterates that Taban defected from the SPLM/SPLA-IO because he was not appointed as the Minister of Petroleum.

According to Machar, Salva Kiir and his new ally, Taban Deng Gai, have just formed a new regime altogether and led South Sudan into its second civil war.

The armed Oppositions leader believes that the only way forward to bring peace to South Sudan is by organizing his troops to change the government by all means possible.

Despite that the government in Juba is attempting to isolate Machar and push him to exile, the armed Opposition controls major areas in all the three regions of South Sudan, which Machar estimates to be half of the country.
