Jan 06, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —- Former Botswana President, Festus Mogae, who overseas the shaky South Sudan Peace Agreement and the formation of Transitional Government of National Unity(TGNU) begins touring the states in accordance with Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) Calendar.

Despite the controversy over the number of states in the country, whether 28, 21 or 10, president Mogae is visiting the 10 states as stipulated in the signed peace agreement and established in the country’s transitional constitution (2011).

According to the inner circles of JMEC, President Mogae is expected to begin the tour this Thursday in Western Bhar el Ghazal before proceeding to Northern Bhar el Ghazal, Unity and Upper Nile states.

Upon his arrival in the states, President Mogae and his delegation are expected to meet with the state governments comprising of governors, religious leaders, local authorities, representatives of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan(UNMISS) and members of the Monitoring and Verification Team.

According to the latest schedules, President Mogae will also meet Winnie Babihuga, the  UNMISS state coordinator in Western Bhar el Ghazal state, after holding a public briefing with members of state government.

On Saturday President Mogae will hold a public briefing with governor, local officials, religious and traditional leaders in Aweil of Northern Bhar el Ghazal state.

In Aweil the JMEC chairman is expected to meet Mary Cummins, the UNMISS state coordinator and members of Monitoring and Verification Mechanism before heading to Upper Nile state.

On Sunday, President Mogae is expected to hold a public briefing in Malakal with the local government of Upper Nile state, religious leaders and also meet with members of monitoring and verification mechanism.

Due to controversies over creation of more states in the country there are two local governments working side by side in some states as others are transitioning to create some boundaries and new governments of what would be Salva Kiir’s 28 states.

It is yet to be seen how the JMEC delegation will be received in the ten states as members of Jieng Council of Elders order harsh punishments and strict measures against the proponents of the ten states in the country.
