Time To Embrace Forgiveness and Reconciliation in South Sudan

Nov 1, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — It is two and half months now after the signing of peace accord by the warring parties in south Sudan conflict, yet today atrocities are still being committed across the nation where civilians are paying great price although their suffering should have been brought to an end.

There are some emerging worrying trends in the recent past; it is unfortunate that the parties to the conflict seem to show no sign of goodwill to implement the agreement to the latter despite their earlier commitment to do so. There had been accusations and counter accusations of who is violating the agreement; nevertheless, South Sudanese need peace. The world youngest nation sliding back to turmoil and devastation in December 2013 has shocked the world given the fact that the nation just emerged from a protracted civil war for 21 years.

However, I want to bring to the attention of the peace actors this crucial aspect of peace building. It is prudent for the post-conflict reconstruction actors to start laying a solid foundation to avoid any recurrent of the present situation. They should remember that youth are not simply a force for instability; they are agents of peace. Their role, whether positive or negative, is shaped by the structures of the reconstruction process.

The youth population’s influence on the level of stability during post-conflict reconstruction is highly conditional. I want to argue both government and the opposition to put in place workable policies which are integral in shaping youth’s role. When the reconstruction actors recognize the special needs of the youth and carry out comprehensive empowerment policies, this will not only reduce youth’s negative potential, but their energies can be redirected toward peace building and nation-building activities.

Furthermore, in the first two decades of the twentieth century, a leading pacifist Alfred H. Fried (unjustified war Theory Expert) set this fundamental question at the heart of the pacifist programme. “If we wish to eliminate an effect, we must first remove its cause. And if we wish to set a new and desirable effect in its place, we must substitute the cause with another which is capable of creating the desired effect” thus, now that the citizens of South Sudan are aware that the problem in the country is conflict, this is the right time we should all raise up in recognition of the need to develop ‘joined –up’ integrated responses for a sustainable peace. Thus, peace building is a responsibility of every citizen, so it can only be achieved through collective efforts by ensuring that social order is established whose effect is to allow conflicts to be managed in a non-violent reliable manner

Finally, mahatma Gandhi once said “ an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind” I believe South Sudanese have a better chance to make a U-turn and think about how they are going to shape their destiny by embracing their diversity. It is high time you and I start an inclusive healing process that will help in fostering national unity which is paramount to nation building as we look forward to a brighter future in our great mother-land. God bless South Sudan.

To hell with forgiveness and reconciliation bullshit.

The incompetent, Dinka warlord, power-hungry-greedy, traitorous, Killer Kiir, Kuol Manyany, Malong Awan, Marial Chinuong, Garang Mabil, Salva Mathok, and Akot (all were the supervisors) of December 2013 Nuer Genocide in Juba, must first be CASTRATED and CREMATED in order for the Nuers to forgive and reconcile with the traitorous and gluttonous Jiengs((slaves) period

Gatdarwich,

You make a good point and I will add to below. In the meantime please don’t bother yourself with that son of a treacherous traitor called Beek.

First of all to talk about forgiveness there must be acknowledgement of wrong,

second justice through legal courts of law.

Third an apology from the government of Jaang or from Jaang community.

Peace between Jaang communities and other tribes.

All stolen land and properties of those murdered in juba must be reclaimed before any of that bs reconciliation, forgiveness is made central to dialogue.

The amount of Nuers killed in Juba alone South Sudan can never afford to recompensate the families of the victims even if they have all the cattles in the world.

Jaang can not afford to compensate Nuers for those murdered base on their ethnicity either.

That’s a short list of things to consider.

When all of this is clear and no compensation to each families of the victims they will eventually go about revengIng their murdered love one at any time they are ready. This predictable situation you will hear it happened. Because Jaang are everywhere accessible.

Nuer let’s be realistic about this so called forgiveness, reconciliation.Peace is easier to forsee that all that nonsense.

Coward Jang Beek, I have not forgotten about you.

Arabs practice mass killings, you Jaang did the same thing in Juba Dec/2013. You have that in common, the satanic ritualistic practices. Terrorism also you have in common with the arabs. So please stop projecting what you are in nature on other people. Your lies are transparent.

I think,Gatdarwich has a point by saying what is imposible to achieve in this stage. First delaye reconciliation or forgive & forget. For those 2 to work side by side, compremise peace agreement must be respected by waring parties. Reconciliation in this case is so sensitive while the killing continueing.

However, it’s time waste to deal with a criminal like killer(kirr) that has given a true gift by god to rule South Sudan because no one ever had tried to challenge salva kirr position after Dr John Garang die in helicopter crashed in late 2005 from Uganda to South Sudan.

What salvage done to South Sudan and people is the most worst ever any of us(South Sudanese) ever imagine, that nationalist could create to a land he fought to liberate for his people to be freed from oppresser. But salva had his own agenda.

I hate to voice this to all South sudan’s people that “no peace” trust me on this term. why, because salva intention wasn’t an accident rather intentional by creating so failed coup attempt by Dr Riek Machar in which turnout to be silly accusation salva.

The reality on the ground is that,it is not the warring military personnel who are suffering from this conflict but civilians.

some civilians who are not yet displaced from their villages or hiding places will probably be displaced or killed in crossfires, if both the warring parties are continuing to undermine the need for this truce to hold permanently.

Other civilians who don’t receive UN relief services such as food and medicines from humanitarian organizations, are already starving to death,as a result of restricted access given to humanitarian organisations by the warring parties.

Even civilians under the UN’s care are dying of certain illnesses which may not have affected them,if it is not this unwanted protraction of this war that is keeping them under poor sanitations and away from their homes which are probably more hygienic.

Some children whom the war affected are malnourished as consequences of living on poor diets such as water-lilies and fish – conditions imposed upon them out of their choices by a man-made war disaster.

The economy is doing poorly as characterized by high inflation such as soaring prices of basic consumer goods and weak pounds against foreign currencies in exchange markets.

A look at all those should tell anyone that, there is nothing good or enjoyable which the protraction of war can bring to this country.

The author is right;forgiveness and reconciliation should get embraced now.
