May 8th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) –South Sudan’s information minister, Michael Makuei Lueth, has been accused of lacking sense of responsibility over his remarks threatening those planning to wage protests on May 16th against the government of president Salva Kiir.

Lueth who is also the government spokesperson on Tuesday threatened that the government will not tolerate what he said would be “imported chaos” and warned that the government will deal with those who will wage protests because it is not ready for the like of Arab Spring.

In a statement to the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday, David Lawrence Lual, a spokesperson for the National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, said citizens have the right to protest and that threat by the information minister shows that he is not responsible.

“….if there is people planning to go out on a peaceful protest against the Government, I think that’s their constitutional rights,” Lual said. “Makuei’s threat [against protesters] is an act of irresponsibility.”

He said the people considers going to the street to express their anger with the government because there is nothing in the country.

“Well, if [the] situation becomes tough and all the essential prerequisites of life are absent because the basic services are not reaching the people then the people will definitely have something to say,” he added.
